The case of multi-drug resistant HIV-1 in children of Novosibirsk region
Abstract
A comprehensive assessment of cases of multidrug-resistant HIV-1 isolated in children aged 1.5 to 6 years in the Novosibirsk region in 2010-2011 has been performed. The genetic diversity of HIV-1, the analysis of mutations in the genome of the virus, which arise in response to antiretroviral therapy were studied and their prevalence was evaluated. It was shown that among the studied variants of HIV-1 most mutations responsible for the formation of resistance are due to nucleoside and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (M184V, Y181C and K103N). A new recombinant form CRF02_AG / A HIV-1 was revealed in 11 of 12 patients with treatment failure in history. It was found that the correction scheme based on ART resistance profile of HIV-1 in the majority of cases leads to therapy viral effectiveness and immunosuppression severity reduction. However, adherence to therapy and early detection of the full range of mutations of the virus, the correct assessment of the current profile of resistance and genetic characteristics of HIV-1 are also important factors in the success of ART.
