ETIOLOGY, PATHOGENESIS, CLINICAL PICTURE, CLASSIFICATION, TREATMENT OF KERATOCONUS (REVIEW)

Abstract

The article provides information on the main causes of keratoconus: genetic, endocrine, exchange, immunologic, allergic and some others, that confirm the multifactor origin of this disease. Ophthalmometry, ultrasound keratopachymetry, computed videokeratopography, aberrometry, confocal microscopy, optical coherence tomography are helpful in the early diagnosis of keratoconus. The hard contact lenses, crosslinking, intrastromal corneal segment implantation or combination of these methods have been used for keratoconus treating at the early stage, different kinds of corneal keratoplasties have been carried out in the late stages.
