Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the incidence and mortality rates in Irkutsk. Material and methods. The method of the region population register based on the international study of stroke report (MONICA 1985–1995 years) has been carried out. The analysis of stroke in an acute period (28 days after the onset of disease) was made in the Sverdlovsk region of Irkutsk with the population of 113474 during 2009–2014. Throughout 6 years of study 2099 cases of stroke were registered in 25–74 age-group. The method of direct standardization based on the European rate of population was used. Results and discussion. The morbidity rate among men in 2014 accounted for 3.29 per 1000 population (95 % CI; 3.03–3.55), among women 2.2 per 1000 population (95 % CI; 2.01–2.39). During 2009–2014 the morbidity among men and women demonstrated fluctuations with the trend close to linear, showing the absence of the growth of the parameters within 6 years period. From 2009 till 2014 the mortality rate of stroke among men and women has dropped by 2 times. In 2014 the mortality rate among men was 0.59 cases per 1000 population (95 % CI; 0.48–0.7) and 0.22 per 1000 population (5 % CI; 0.16–0.28) among women, respectively. The decline in mortality rate was the result of the series of measures aimed at the reorganization of stroke care to patients in the region within the National program.
