Peculiarities of pathogenesis of primary open angle glaucoma with normalized intraocular pressure, new approaches to the integrated treatment

Author Affiliations

Abstract

It has been shown that the activity of local inflammatory process was revealed in patients with the initial stage of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) with normalized intraocular pressure (IOP). This suggests that the normalization of IOP is not able to prevent completely the disease development and that the inflammatory process intensity largely determining the glaucoma activity plays the important role in the mechanisms of progression of POAG. The treatment method application based on the drugs complex introduction into the microcirculation region on the side of the affected organ leads to the inflammatory activity reduction and the visual organ functional state improvment.
