Magnetic resonance tomography in diagnosis of kidney hemosiderosis in patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria

Author Affiliations

Abstract

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare form of acquired hemolytic anemia characterized by intravascular hemolysis. One of its complications is the kidneys hemosiderosis. Three PNH clinical cases have been presented where verified hemosiderin deposition in the renal parenchyma was revealed with MRI. At PNH the MRI scans demonstrate pathognomonic signs associated with kidney hemosiderin deposition. The typical sharp decrease of signal intensity has been revealed on T2- weighted images of renal cortex.
