Clinical, psychological and metabolic characteristics of obese children

Abstract

Childhood obesity is a complex multidisciplinary problem which is still far from being solved. The aim of the study was to identify the main clinical, psychological and metabolic peculiarities of childhood obesity and its complications. A total of 103 children with obesity and 30 children of the comparison group have been examined. It was found that the formation of obesity in children affected by perinatal factors and genetic predisposition. Impaired fat metabolism is accompanied with the formation of specific psychological personality structure. Metabolic syndrome associated with obesity was detected in 30% of children. In addition, obesity in children is accompanied with the broad range of vascular and somatic disorders.
