Prognostic value of proteasome activity determination in squamous cell carcinomas of head and neck

Author Affiliations

Abstract

The aim of the study was to investigate the prognostic value of chymotrypsine-like proteasome activity in head and neck carcinomas. Material: 66 patients with head and neck cancer (Т2–3N0–2). Methods: Proteasome and calpain activity was determined using specific fluorogenic substrate. Salt fractionation with ammonium sulfate was performed for proteasome pool division. The univariate analysis of overall, recurrence-free and metastasis-free survival according the Gehan-Wilcoxon and log-rank tests has been conducted. Results. The connection between the total proteasome activity rate, 26S proteasome activity and overall survival was revealed. It has been determined that the high total proteasome activity and 26S proteasome activity were the factors of 2-years good prognosis for the patients with epidermoid carcinoma of head and neck.
