Abstract

The effectiveness of lymphotropic antibacterial therapy of patients with chronic tonsillitis (CT) based on a study of changes in the concentration pr- (IL-1β and TNF-α) and anti-inflammatory (IL-4 and TGF-β1) cytokines in serum and in the discharge of lacunae of tonsils has been evaluated. The 77 patients with CT at the acute stage underwent clinical examination and were divided into 2 groups depending on the treatment method: I group consisted of 41 patients with CT who received conventional treatment regimen; group II – 36 patients with CT which received additionally included lymphotropic antibacterial injections into the treatment scheme. The control group consisted of 17 healthy donors. It has been found that the use of lymphotropic antibacterial therapy effectively normalizes the organism system response at CT exacerbation as evidenced by significant reduction of proinflammatory cytokines in serum and elevated levels of compensatory anti-inflammatory cytokines. Moreover, the inclusion of lymphotropic antibacterial therapy of patients with CT leads to an effective relief of the inflammatory process in the tonsils and reduces the number and duration of courses of antibiotic therapy.
