Content of matrix metalloproteinase-9 in the lacrimal and intraocular liquids in choroidal melanoma

Author Affiliations

Abstract

The concentrations of matrix metalloproteinase-9 in the lacrimal and intraocular liquids in patients with choroidal melanoma have been investigated. The significant association between matrix metalloproteinase-9 concentrations in the lacrimal and intraocular liquids has been revealed. It has been shown that the development and growth of choroidal melanoma are associated with the increase in concentrations of matrix metalloproteinase-9 in the lacrimal and intraocular liquids in affected eye as well as in paired «healthy» eye. That indicates the pronounced proliferative processes at the local level.
